Volunteering recruitment
I have been recruiting, orchestrating and motivating volunteers for most of my life.
- From a wide spectrum of the public, from small children to senior citizens.
- From one-time tasks to leadership roles.
- In schools, sports, service organizations and the religious community.
- Inclusion has been one of the most prominent and consistent features of my volunteer recruiting initiatives.
Volunteering

- Through religious institutions, schools and scouting.
- Tutoring/mentoring younger students, since elementary school.
- Civic volunteering, various.
- College:
- Tutored 2 Spanish speaking children English and Mathematics,
in the early stages of what is now referred to as, "English as a Second Language".
- Scoutmaster
- Israeli Scouts, Beer Sheva, Israel, 1980-1981.
- ~400 boys and girls, 4th - 12th grades.
- Community sports - volunteer as a parent:
- USA and high school swimming: Volunteer (~20 years); Stroke & Turn Judge (~8 years).
- Synchronized swimming.
- Cross Country, Track and Field.
- Soccer (minimal involvement).
- North Shore Striders (NSS), MA:
- Running Club: www.northshorestriders.com.
- NSS Co-Webmaster (since 2002): Significantly expanded web site, over the years.
- Assistant Race Director (since 2002): Preparation of forms (both paper and web), logistics support, for a variety of
races.
- Dory Run (Swampscott road race): Director of "Kids' Races";
introduced the, "Prep School Races".
- Photographer (since 2001): Took, posted and manage most of the over one thousand photos on the club’s online, "Gallery".
- NSS Volunteering (since 2005): Eliminated lack of volunteers as a problem in the club’s support of running events on the North Shore.
- Goal Chasers (since 2003): Initiated very successful motivational program, "Goal Chasers," for the runners at the "Back of the Pack."
- Marathon Madness (since 2003): Initiated very successful motivational program for extreme runners.
- President’s Award (long term service as a volunteer), North Shore Striders, 2005.
- Temple Emanu-El, Marblehead MA:
- Board of Directors, 2003-2006.
- Executive Committee, Recoding Secretary, Membership Chair, 2005-2006.
- Head Usher, 2002-current.
- Photographer (unofficial, primarily of school-aged events).
- Various other committees and activities, 1998-current.
- General volunteering, as a adult:
- Pre-school / Kindergarten: Numerous periods of volunteering, over many years.
- Various committees and task forces, in numerous communities.
- Education committee: First male invited to join Education Committee in a young kibbutz,
even though I was not yet married and did not yet have any children.
- Performing arts: Plays and musicals, as a parent and a performer.
- Singing: I felt a need for an Israeli Sing-Along, so I organized it and
made it happen.
- Various additional youth programs, over the years.
